An airport is divided in two areas from a security point of view :

  • The public area, freely accessible without any special title or authorization (parking lots, external roads, commercial areas, services, reception areas, check-in areas and luggage delivery rooms if necessary)
  • The security restricted area (ZSAR), only accessible to a person with an access title (badges for staff, ticket for passengers). It includes spaces such as boarding lounges, walkways, runways and airport traffic areas, baggage sorting areas, baggage delivery rooms where appropriate and also dedicated security areas.

The restricted area and the public area are phisycally separated, as well inside the airport buildings than outside.

The acces to the restricted area can be autorized, only after the control of the autorization weared by the person or the vehicule concerned, and if applicable through a systematic screening.
