Innovation and research at the heart of STAC's missions

The Civil Aviation Technical Service (STAC) has been entrusted with essential missions to support and promote research and innovation in the field of civil aviation. Reporting to the French Civil Aviation Adminitration (DGAC), STAC plays a key role in supporting the development of innovative technical solutions to meet current and future air transport challenges, whether in terms of safety, security, sustainability, or efficiency. This commitment is part of a continuous improvement approach, aimed at anticipating the needs of a constantly evolving sector and strengthening the competitiveness of the French aviation ecosystem.

Beyond its own activities, since 2021 the STAC has co-piloted the Transport Innovation Agency (AIT), in collaboration with the Multimodality, Innovation, Digital and Territories sub-directorate (SDMINT) of the General Directorate of Infrastructure, Transport and Mobility (DGITM) and the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, Fisheries and Aquaculture (DGAMPA). Launched to address the major challenges facing the transport sector, the AIT embodies a strong ambition: to accelerate the transition to sustainable and smart mobility. Under this co-leadership, STAC brings its recognized technical expertise, particularly in the airport and aeronautics sectors, to catalyze projects led by a variety of stakeholders—startups, manufacturers, research institutes, and local authorities. This synergy illustrates the desire to make innovation a strategic lever for the future of transport.
