Purpose
French regulation requires airfield lights and signs to be certified by the STAC before their installation on a French aerodrome exempt from European certification.
The certification of airfield lights and signs and obstacle lights by the STAC is based on the following French orders :
- Amended French order dated 28 August 2003 on aerodromes approval conditions conditions and operating procedures ;
- French order dated 29 September 2009 on the safety technical characteristics applicable to the design, the installation, the operation and the maintenance of ground-based aeronautical infrastructures used exclusively by single main rotor helicopters ;
- French order dated 23 April 2018 on the implementation of the lighting and the marking of obstacles to air navigation.
Scope
For each aeronautical lighting and signage equipment certified by the STAC, the certification scope is mentioned on the certificate of conformity issued by the STAC.
