Within the STAC, the Air Navigation division of the Air Navigation and Information Systems department (STAC/ANS) was set up specifically in 2005 to constitute an ATM/ANS expertise wing independent of air navigation service providers.

Protect civil aviation against acts of unlawful interference

Safety, regularity and efficiency of the international civil aviation and its facilities and services are compromised by an ever-increasing variety of criminal acts. The security of air transport is defined therefore as a combination of measures, equipment and human resources in order to prevent acts of unlawful interference.

Constant growth of air traffic, which supports other economic sectors, requires a strict control of its environmental impacts. Therefore, the Service Technique de l’Aviation Civile (STAC, Civil Aviation Technical Center) works in the following fields :

The airport capacity studies aim to assess an airport’s performances by determining the maximum traffic flow, expressed in aircraft or passenger movements per unit of time, that it is capable of accepting in satisfactory conditions for operators. Airport capacity is a decision-making aid for use in the planning of airport infrastructure and coordination.

As civil aviation technical centre of the French civil aviation authority, the STAC provides its technical expertise and support for airport and aeronautical matters on the whole national territory. Though attached to the air transport Directorate of the French Ministry in charge of transport, the STAC also provides assistance to the ministry for Defence.

A full-scale instrumented test-facility for French rational mechanical airport pavement modeling improvements

As part of a research program on airfield pavement testing and assessment, the STAC has constructed a 1800 m2 full-scale instrumented test facility in Bonneuil-sur-Marne (France).
